In the version of Cinderella published in my 1947 collection, there is no fairy god mother! Instead, Cinderella plants a hazel branch on her dead mother’s grave. When she desires to go to the prince’s ball, she goes to the tree, and a magical Bird brings her a beautiful dress to wear.
I love how the dress is materializing in this illustration by Elenore Abbott (who also selected the stories in this collection).
