Cinderella

Grimms Fairy Tails Illustrated by Elenore Abbott cinderella
Cinderella weeping and praying at the hazel tree growing on her mother’s grave.

In the version of Cinderella published in my 1947 collection, there is no fairy god mother! Instead, Cinderella plants a hazel branch on her dead mother’s grave. When she desires to go to the prince’s ball, she goes to the tree, and a magical Bird brings her a beautiful dress to wear.

I love how the dress is materializing in this illustration by Elenore Abbott (who also selected the stories in this collection).
